Chevening Run 2011

It was the running club Chevening run on Tuesday. This is a group 12 mile run to Chevening. I decided to run with the slower longer group. This was a tough run the  first 5 miles to Knockholt is mostly up hill. When we had arrived at Chevening we had done 8 miles and I was a bit worried that if I had to run 8 miles back I would not be able to make it. Fortunately we came back via a shorter route and we only ran 13.5 miles.I have not been doing so much running recently and it was a tough run . I pretty much had to walk the last mile. There were lots of people on the run and it was great to catch up with all my running buddies. I am going to ramp up my running soon when I start training for Beachy Head.

Karate training

Loads of body impact training tonight. Arms, legs and stomach. Lots of dead arms and legs and nerve strikes. I am going to ache tomorrow. It has taken a long time but my stomach muscles are getting stronger and if I know it iscoming I am learning to take a punch to the stomach.
I must focus on getting my next belt.

Tai Chi Instructor

Really pleased because I got my Instructor membership to Tai Chi Union of Great Britain I was pleased to note that I have been allocated as an Advanced Instructor. This is one below top instructor grade which requires 20 years experience. My training partner Chris was also awarded Advanced Instructor.

Overall I think this is a fair reflection as I have been training for 12 years and attending an instructors class for about 6 years. I also have my black sash in combat and Chris and I are now running our own school.

Been Very Busy

I have been very busy over the last week and only managed to get out for a run on Tuesday for a 7 mile run with the running club. Good run but I can see I am losing fitness running up hills. Really want to get back to running twice a week but it has been near on impossible.

I have entered for Eridge 10 in September which is pure cross county. This was voted best run by readers of runners world 2009.

Was planning to go for run on Saturday but spent all day clearing part of our garden, sawing down an apple tree and clearing up(see photo) did so much sawing and bending over too tired to go for a run.
Though I would go for a run on Sunday morning but too tired and Karate tonight so decided to chill out.

Juneathon Blog 1

I have signed for Juneathon which means I need to do some sporting activity every day in June and Blog what I have done within 24 hours so here is blog number one:

Tuesday 1st June did 2.5 hours of Tai Chi. The first hour was spent teaching and the second part training with Chris. The Teaching is very enjoyable but mentally it is hard work. After Chris and I ran through the form, outside which was really good,  there was alot of energy around and it fires you up. I always feel really energised after Tai Chi. The only downside is Tai Chi really fires up your energy and it takes a little time for it to settle down which means I cannot sleep for a while until the energy has settled and having the get up early for work the next day is tough.

Tuesday night at the Running Club

Excellent 8 mile run on Tuesday night around Chelsfield.  There were some long hills - up around Well Hill and I did have to stop a couple of times to catch my breath. Fantastic view from Chelsfield  across London. The sun was setting and I could see Canary Wharf, Gherkin and The Shard. From top of Goddington Park we had a sprint back to Green Street Green, my legs were tired from 10k on Monday so it tough and pleased to get back to the finish.

It was great to get back running with the running club and spent time chatting with fellow runners after we had finished. For such a small running club some people are doing some pretty impressive stuff:

  • Two ran in  in Grand Union Canal Ultra marathon - 145miles!
  • Three completed Comrades marathon.
  • One person ran in the 2012 Olympic test and got picture in national paper wearing a ORR shirt.
